NYFW / The Shows / Part 3

Hakkaya Akkaya is a Turkish designer who studied fashion design at Istasyon Art Academy. After he graduated Akkaya worked as a Design Department  Manager for some leading brands within the Turkish textile industry. In 2010, he established his own atelier firm. He has been showing his collections at NYFW The Shows for the past 6 years now.

Black and white silhouettes and bold stripes with hints of Zebra prints hit the runway at the Hakan Akkaya S/S 18 Fashion show on Monday September 11th 2017. The collection was inspired by existentialism; which is the work associated within the late 19th – 20th century European philosophers. While the predominant value of existentialist thought is commonly acknowledged to be freedom, its primary virtue is authenticity. Often times black and white can be seen as boring or mundane, well Hakan Akkaya redefined those notions. Even the all black looks came to life on the runway. This show was truly epic! I loved the contrast between the stripes and the zebra pints. The two prints compliment each other very well.
